The book Abdominal Stomas and their Skin Disorders is the result of the work of Dr. Calum Lyon and Ms. Amanda Smith. Their research yielded such excellent material - including detailed and dramatic photographs - that it was decided to share their work with other healthcare professionals by publishing the work in book form.
The research was initiated and done in close cooperation between Hope Hospital, Salford Royal Hospitals NHS Trust, and the University of Manchester.
This project was made possible with active support and funding by Dansac A/S,The British Ileostomy and Urostomy Association and BAD (British Association of dermatologists).
Anatomical Stomas and their Skin Disorders is an acclaimed book which has won a BMA award.
The jury said: This book aims to bridge the gap between the colorectal surgeon, the stoma care nurse and the dermatologist. It addresses the questions of what pathology is involved, what can be done by nurses, when to refer to a dermatologist and what can be done by a dermatologist. This book fills a gap in the literature and does so extremely well. It is a pleasure to use.
The authors/editors, Amanda Smith and Calum Lyon are highly respected professionals in their fields and Dansac A/S is proud and happy to have been part of this important initiative, which we hope ultimately will result in improved patient care. We believe that our participation in projects like this reinforces the Dansac commitment to the people who use our products, both the stoma care nurse and the end user. We strive, in all we do, to being dedicated to stoma care in an informal, reliable, innovative, modern and to us most important: ethical way.
